AAA Coming of Age Dinner

T the Annual General Meeting - of the Amateur Athletic Association, held at the Hotel Cecil, March 30th, 1901, it was resolved unanimously, " That a Dinner shouldhe arranged to celebrate theComing ofAge ofthe Association, and that grant of £50 should be voted towards the expenses of the guests to be invited to the banquet." The following Sub-Committeewas elected to carry out the arrangements: T. M. Abraham (North), F. VVilks (Midlands), G. V. A. Schofield and Gordon C. Innes (South), together withthe Honorary Secretary,C. Herbert. The Committee, after consultationwith the President, decided to hold the Dinner on June 8th, 1901, at the Trocadero Restaurant. Altogether one hundred and one guests sat down to the tables, and, but for the difficulty in obtaining thepresent addressesof the numerous former challenge-cup holders since the formation of the Society, and other competitors, thneumber wouldhave been largely augmented. In addition to the leading representatives of all the different governing bodies of amateur sport, the following distinguished guests, otherthan those actually present, were invited, but had to express their regret at being unable to accept the invitation : Mr. Hayes Fisher, M.P., Mr. F. Cawley, M.P., Mr. J. G. Groves, M.P., the Right Hon. Herbert Gladstone, M.P., Sir J. Kitson, Bart., Mr. James Tomkinson, M.P., Col. Sir Howard Vincent, K.C.M.G., C.B., M.P., Sir J. T. Brunner, Bart., M.P., Lord Kinnaird, LordHowe (PresidentM.C.C.), Mr. W. H. Grenfell, M.P., Sir T. T. Bucknill, the Right Hon. A. L. Smith, Lord Harris, the Hon. W. F. D. Smith, M.P., the Right Hon.
