Up to the time he adopted this style he had cleared 5 ft . 3 ins., which he improved to 5 ft. 7t ins. in his first \Vestern Roll jump. The bar is approached at an angle of +5 degrees, with a long, bounding step, but not too fast. On the last stride the jumper crouches slightly for the spring, which is made front the foot nearest to the bar. The body rises into the air with as much kick as possible, of the outside (right) leg, to secure the necessary impetus to lift the heavy, central portions -<>f the body up to the level of the bar (Fig. 2) . ~ V.) 0
