POLE VAULT-SU1\ll\1ARY (1) TnE TAKE-OFF AFTER planting the end of the pole in the slide-way, simultaneously with the shifting of the lower hand up the pole until it touches the upper hand, the vaulter pushes his arms forward and up to almost full-arm extension. He runs off the ground and swings up into the air with a direct forward body-swing and no pull at all upon the arms. The legs, beginning to bend a little at the knees and hips, swing straight ahead, until the left hip is beginning to pass the shaft of the pole. Care must be taken not to drop the head back, nor to cramp the swing by bending the body in at the stomach or flexing the arms at the elbows. Jooo4 ~ \.0
