HAl\,Il\'IER THRO\YIXG-SG~I:\L\RY (r) THE hammer thrower takes up his position with the feet from 12 to 18 inches apart and the toes almost touching the edge of the 7-ft. circle. His back is turned to the direction in ·which it is intended to make. the throw. He starts the hammer with a good pull from out to the right, raises his arms and swings the hammer three times about his head. As the hammer is travelling down at his right side, he begins to turn, well ahead of the hammer, on the ball of the left foot. The right foot then reaches a spot nearer to the centre of the circle and the left foot is withdra-wn to a spot le\·el with the new right- foot position. N l.n ""-l
