A little care at .the outset in this respect will save great trouble, many mistakes and general confusion. As soon as the name is entered in the first book the assistant sec. ought to send off the competitor's ticket, which is in itself a receipt for the fees. If there is any objectionable entry the committeehave aperfect right to refuse, without being called on to give a reason why they do so; but it is best to quote theexact A.A.A. rule (No. 10) on the subject— "Sports committees may reserve to themselves the right to refuse any entry, without being bound to assign a reason, or to disqualify a competitor atany time, if his conversation orconduct isunbecoming, or if it is shown thathis entry was made under false pretences." But the hon. sec.,as before advised, ought to be provided with the complete set of A.A.A. and N.C.U. laws, rules, and regulations. There is a third list which ought to be prepared—that for the handicapper; but it is a strange fact that notone secretaryin a hundred knows howto draw one up. Generally thelists are something like this, but, being in writing, appear tentimes moreconfusing:—
