DISTANCE AND MARATHON RUNNING On the days the athlete runs only once he may take, in addition to the run, a 3 hours' walk at 5 miles per hour. Long walks should be followed by a warm bath and massage, to ease the leg muscles. The runs are to be done strictly to time schedules, and must be checked by the stop-watch. Marathon racing must be followed by a period of gradual training-off. A man's health will suffer if he stops training suddenly after a victory or a defeat.
