THE DISCUS THROW FINAL, oR CoMPETITIVE, SEASON oF TRAINING Penultimate Week Monday. Standing throws: two at half effort _ for smooth delivery action and two at three-quarter effort for rapid hip rotation. Throws with turn: two at half effort for continuity of action, three at half effort for co-ordination, and three at three-quarter effort for rapid hip rotation, long, steady flight, and good direction. Tuesday. Go to ground and limber up. Massage. Wednesday. Three standing throws at quarter effort for proper delivery angle. Two standing throws at half effort for direction and steady flight. Throws with turn: two at half effort for elevation and direction and three at three-quarter effort for continuity, acceleration, and rapid hip rotation. Thursday. Go to ground and limber up. Friday. Rest. Massage. Saturday. After three to six light standing throws make six throws with the turn at three-quarter effort for good co-ordination. Final Week Monday. Standing throws: two at quarter effort for co-ordination and two at half effort to strengthen any weak point in style. Practise turning to throwing position six times without throwing. Throws with turn: two at half effort for direction, elevation, and steady flight. Tuesday. Standing throws: two very loose throws to emphasize relaxation and two at half effort, emphasizing freedom of action. Two throws with turn at half effort for continuity of pull, steadiness of flight, direction, and elevation. Wednesday. Go to ground -and limber up. Light massage. Thursday and Friday. Rest. Light massage. Saturday. Particular competition for which training has been undertaken. 44 1
