OUR LEADERS Vice-President of the A.A.A. in 1905 and a Life Vice-President when the office was created in 1925. VICE-PRESIDENTS W. W. ALEXANDER: Joined the Birchfield Harriers in the year the A.A.A. was formed (1880), and won many scratch races and handicaps in all parts of the country. Hon. Secretary of the Club for a record number of years, and is still acting in that position. Past President and a former Hon. Secretary of the National Cross-Country Union. Life Vice-President of the Midland Counties A.A.A., and elected a Vice– President of the A.A.A. in 1925. J. E. FowLER-D1xoN : Present at the first A.A.A. Meeting at Oxford in 1880. Life President of the Centurions (membership limited to those who have walked 100 miles in twenty-four hours), Hon. Secretary of the original North of the Thames Cross-Country Union (1880-1884), Past President of Southern Counties Cross-Country Association and National Cross-Country Union. President of L.A.C. in 1912 and Vice– President of Blackheath, South London, Polytechnic and Finchley Harriers. Present holder of 40 miles record (4 hr. 46 min. 54 sec.), established in 1884, and former holder of 50 miles record (6 hr. 18 min. 26-g- sec.). A Judge at the Olympic Games on four occasions. Elected a Vice-President of the A.A.A. in 1922. C. E. LYALL: A former Hon. Secretary of the North Durham Cricket Club (1904-1927), he has been a member ofthe No. 1 District Committee of the Northern Counties A.A. since 1898, and a member of the Executive Committee since 1906. From 1915 to 1919 he was President of the Northern Counties A.A., and during the War acted as Hon. Secretary of the Northern Command Cross-Country Association. Hon. Secretary of the International Cross-Country Championship when it was held at Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1924. He was elected a Vice-President of the A.A.A. for the years 1924 to 1927, and elected again in the Jubilee year. A. E. MACHIN: Born at Rochdale, and followed Athletics to cure illness, competing for eight seasons. President of Sparkhill Harriers since 1904. Midland Counties A.A.A. handicapper for fourteen years, and N.C.U. handicapper for twenty-six years. In the Midland Counties A.A.A. he has acted as Hon. Secretary (1916-1923), and President (1925-1927), and at the present time is a Life Vice-President and Hon. Treasurer. President of Midland Counties Cross-Country Association (1913-1921), and President National Cross-Country Union (1922). Timekeeper at the Championships and elected a Vice-President of the A.A.A. in 1925. 13
