P R E F AC E . The education of youth is naturally di­ vided into two parts—mental and physical. In England, the attention of thosewho have the superintendence of education, has been entirely confined to the former; the latter has been left to chance and the natural ne­ cessity for exertion which characterizes the human body in the early stages of life.
