Eainsford (scratch), who made a waiting race of it till half way round the last lap, and beat B. B. Cope (50 yards) by six yards in 11 minutes 9 seconds. At the Downing College, Cambridge, meeting, oNno­ vember 23, W. B. Macmichael showed he was as much at home on terra firma as in hisUniversity boat, by win­ ning the chiefevents, the strangers' race beinpgostponed till the Lent term. Jesus College, Cambridge, held t ir annual meeting on November 26 and 27, but the fields were small except in the strangers' race. J. H. Eidley, who is not sgoood at 100 yards as at a quarter of a mile, was beaten by C. C. Corfe at the former distance. In the latter, how­ ever, he had it all his own way, W. 0. Gibbsbeing the only man who was ever near him. W. B. Curteis per­ formed best in the minor events, especially in the high jump, where he cleared 6 feet 3 inches, only two inches less than his own height, and also won the pole jump. M. Templeton, Trinity College, secured the 200-yards strangers' race in 22| secondasn;d great excitement was caused by Martel and Gilbert making a dead heat of the two miles. At the Worcester College,Oxford, sports, oNnovember 27, by far the most noteworthy feature was the splendid running of W. M. Chinnery, London A. 0., in the strangers' mile, which hewon in the fastest time on the Marston Road Ground, viz.,4 minutes 38 seconds. This may be considered no mean performance, as among the beaten divisionwere W. B. Bowman, University College, who won his University mile the next term; HJ.. Morgan, Trinity, and S. G. Scott, Magdalen, both of whom are good at long distances. In thetwo mile raceJ. E. Greaves and T. J. Smith repeatedly changed places, the latter eventually winning bythree yards. At the Jesus College, Oxford, sports, on November 28, the only feature worthy of note was the 200 yards strangers' handicap, fowr hich five trial heats took .place. In the first,W. J.Brere, Magdalen (4 yards), had it all his own way. In the second, J. H. Ridley, Jesus College, Cambridge, from scratch, beat C. N. Jackson, Magdalen Hall (4 yards), by a yard, in the splendid time of 21
