Pitt-Taylor and R. Fitzherbert, the former of whom led over the two last flights,but his opponent made it upin the run home. In the final, Pitt-Taylorcame out at the third flightand maintained a veryslight lead to the end, which almost resulted in another deadheat. Owing to the wet the times of both beats were slow. The result of the half-mile was never in doubt, as A. W. Lambert had the race in hand all the way, andwon in 2 minutes 4f seconds. A large field started for the three miles. After innumerable changes ER.oyds, A. E.R. MicMefleld, and G. G-. Kennedy went to the fore at the end of the second mile, and finished in the order named 1in5 minutes 56|- seconds. Mead, a persevering young athlete, secured his maiden handicap at 150 yards with 1y0ards start, after a good race, in which several known men competed. The high jump fell to J. A. Harwood, with a goloedap of 5 feet 6; and W. O. Cross (40 yards) won his first flat race in the members' half mile handicap; J. K. Birkeley from scratch reversing last year's running and beating his co-starter, A. King, byas much as he lost by on thepre­ vious occasion. The two miles walking was of boursae cer­ tainty for W.
