B.Michell, the celebrated sculler (25 seconds) was agood third. W. John stone of Carlisle (2 minutes) was the favouritefor a long way, but tired towards the finish. Rugby School Sports were held on March 23 and 24. In the open 200yards, Badger finishedahead of Bucknill, but at hall the distance on the following dtahye order was reversed, and the latter was also successful in the mile which was run alongthe Hilmerton Road, as well as in the "quarter." The only other extensive winner was Welsh, who secured both the flat halfmile and that over hurdles, besides being second in the mile. At Marlborough College, on March 27 and 28, one of the usual lengthy schoolprogrammes was got through, the number ot class and lower school races being legion, and the course in all short races down hill. Of the open events, E. S. Gamierwon the 200 and 300 yards hurdles, although penalized eight yards in the latter, ran a dead- heat with E. W. Mainwaring in the 100 yards, and finished a foot only behind the same gentleman in the 200 yards, li. Hawkins also tied with Mainwaring at five feet in the high jump, the take-off being very slipperyE. ,. Leach secured the "quarter" in 54s|econds, good time on grass, and the three quarters of a mile in 3 minutes 44 seconds. 01the othercompetitors, E.A.Tanqueray showed good form in the mile, which hewon by a foot onlv from R. Leach. At Harrow School, on March 28, A. K. Einlay (scratch) got by far the best start in the finhaleat of the Old Har rovians' 120 yards handicap, and won by a couple of yards from lemplar. In the final heatof the school "quarter," J. Watney, 0. W. Walker,and J. B.Broadmead ran a close race till 100 yards from home,when the former came away and wonby four yards, the second place being ad- judged a deadheat. E. J. Colbeckvirtually walked over for the quarter milestrangers' race, as W. OC. ollett, the only other starter, was unaccustomed toa hard turnpike- road course, and did not persevere. J. H. Ridley had entered, but wisely reserved himself for the Oxford and Cambridge meeting the followingweek. The Barnes Football Club meeting, on March 28, secured a fair attendance.
