(25 seconds), and J. C. Smith, Willesden Cricket Club (80 seconds), the former being virtually scratch man in the absence of J. H.Morgan, Trinity College,Oxford. Gilmour, however, came away pretty easily, and won by some twenty yards i1n6 minutes 13 seconds, good timeconsidering the uneven ature of the course. _ The final heat of the open 150 yards handicap re sulted in a close finish between W. G.Grace, Marylebone Cricket Club (Syards)J, . K.Barnes, London A.C.(scratch), and T. L. Aubrey, LondonA. C. (9 yards). In the trial heat Grace had beaten Barnesby a yard, W. M. Bennett, Thames R. C.(11 yards) running a dead heat with the latter for second place. The final was a very fast-run race, Barnes having the best of it till close home, when Grace just beat him by a foot; T. L. Aubrey, London A. C. (9 yards), a very good third. A. Lubbock, Amateur A. C., won the pole jump at 10 feet, at that time the highest amateur leapon record. T. Griffith (35 seconds) secured the threemiles open walking handicap easily, in the absenceof the scratch man,W. Rye, Thames RC. .; the winner's style being well suited for anuneven turf course. W. G. Grace, Marylebone CricketClub (scratch) was shut out in the final heat of the 120 yards hurdlehandicap, which fell to W. P. P. Moore, Amateur A. (C1.0 yards), who.is also an adept at pole-jumping and putting the weight. The one mile handicap steeple chaseat Black- heath is always an interesting item in the programme from the varied nature ofthe course. J. W. Laing, Ox- F
