As regards the result of the Vth Olympiad as a whole, one might say that the United States of America came 2nd with a total of 129 points, scoring in athletics rst, 2nd and 3rd places in the roo metres Dash; 1st and 3rd in the Pentathlon; 2nd and 3rd in the Standing Broad Jump; 2nd in the w,ooo metres; rst and 3rd in the Running High Jump; Ist, 2nd and 3rd at 8oo metres; rst, 2nd and 3rd in Putting the Shot, best hand; 2nd and 3rd at 1500 metres; 1st and 2nd in Putting the Shot, right and left hands added together; 1st and 2nd in the 200 metres Dash; Ist, 2nd and 3rd in the Pole Vault; 2nd and 3rd in Discus Throwing, best hand; Ist, 2nd and 3rd in the I 10 metres Hurdles; Ist, Running Long Jump; 1st and 2nd, Standing High Jump; rst and 3rd in the 400 metres; rst in 3000 metres Team race; 1st and 3rd Throwing the Hammer; 3rd Marathon; Ist, r6oo metres Relay; rst, Decathlon. In Shooting they were very prominent; rst in the Army Rifle Team competition and also in Individual Duel Shooting and in Clay Bird Team competition; 2nd in IndividualArmy Rifle Shooting and 1st and 2nd in Individual Pistol Shooting; 2nd and 3rd in Individual Army Rifle Shooting at 6oo metres; 1st in Pistol Team competition and also in Individual Clay Bird; 3rd in Miniature Rifle Team competition at 50 metres; 2nd in Running Deer Team; 1st in Minia– ture, Individual, and 3rd in Miniature Team contests. Further, the Americans scored 3rd place in the Cycle race round the Malar and 3rd in the Team competition. As at the preceding Olympiad in London, however, Sweden, the home country, came rst, with 132 points made up as follows: Athletics: Best hand Javelin, 1st; 400 metres Relay, 2nd; Running Broad Jump, 3rd; 3000 metres Team race, rst, 2nd and 4th Individual; Discus, 3rd, Aggregate contest; Hop, Step and Jump, Ist, 2nd and 3rd. They won the Team competition Cross-country with men placed 2nd, 3rd and 5th. They were 2nd and 3rd in the Decathlon, and 1st in the Tug-of-War. ' Shooting: 3rd in the Army Rifle Team competition; 2nd and 3rd in the Individual Duel Shooting; rst and 2nd in the Individual in the Single Shooting at Running Deer; rst, 2nd and 3rd in the Individual Double Shooting at Running Deer; 1st in Team Duel Shooting; 2nd in Miniature Rifle Team competition (50 metres); 1st in Team Shooting at Running Deer, also in Team competition with any rifle; 1st in Miniature Rifle Shoot– ing competition (25 metres); rst, 2nd and 3rd in the Individual Miniature Rifle Shooting at 25 metres.
