LOS ANGELES, I932 I8I ofitaly; E. Flynn, U.S.A., defeated E. Campe, Germany, in the Final of the Welter-weight (I47lb.), while C. Earth, U.S.A., defeated A. Azar, Argentine, in the Middle-weight (I6o lb.). Argentine won the Heavy-weight (over I75 lb.) by S. A. Lovell defeating L. Rovati, Italy, in the Final. Neither of the English-speaking -races was particularly distinguished in 'the track cycling, which took place at Pasadena Rose Bowl, or in the Road race, but Great Britain, who sent seven cyclists to Los Angeles, had the satisfaction of welcoming six of the seven riders home who had gained Olympic medals for 2nd and 3rd places. Only one Individual Olympic cycling record was broken in I932 when E. Gray, Australia, took 29·2 secs. off the existing Olympic record in the woo metres Time Trial. His time was I min. I3 secs., with Van Egmond, Holland, and Rampelberg, Franee, close behind him, while Harvel, Great Britain, ancr Consonni, Italy, were both credited with I min. I4'7 secs. Otherwise J would say that Continental cyclists were predominant at the I932 Olympiad. Van Egmond, Holland, won the 1000 metres Scratch race, Gray, Australia, the Time Trial; in the 2000 metres Tandem France beat Great Britain and Denmark; in the 4000 metres Team Pursuit race Italy beat France, Great Britain and Canada, while the IOO kilometres (62 miles 244 yards) Road race was won by A. Pavesi in 2 hours 28 mins. 5·6 secs. The Team Road race was won by Italy from Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, France and U.S.A. For five days the Equestrian events of the Xth Olympiad went on at the Riviera Country Club and the Olympic 'Stadium. At the Country Club Commandax:t F ran~ois Lesage, Senior Instructor of Samur, won the Dressage competition for France with his fine black gelding 'Taine'. Ten horses representing France, Mexico, Sweden and U.S.A. took part in this event, in which 2nd honours went to Commandant Charles Marion, of France, on 'Linon', while Captain Hiram Tuttle, U.S.A., took 3rd place on his thoroughbred horse 'Olympic'. Incidentally, Commandant Marion was 2nd also in I928. 1 The teams placings were France, Sweden, and U.S.A. The final placings in the 3 Days Equestrian Championship, Individual, were Lieut. C. F. P. de Mortanges, Holland, Lieut. E. F. Thompson, U.S.A., and Lieut. C. von Rosen, Sweden. The team placings were U.S.A., Holland otnd Sweden. The Prix Des Nations Jumping attracted eleven horsemen representing U.S.A., Mexico, Sweden and Japan. This event was c~nt~sted in the Olympic Stadium, and all but five of the contestants were ehmmated over the course, which was a stiff one with some twelve jumps. Individually, the jumping was won by Lieut. T. Nishi, Japan, from Major H. D. Chamberlain, U.S.A., and Lieut. C. van Rosen, Sweden. As no whole team finished the team jumping award was not made. The combats of both men and women fencers occupied I4 days at the Xth Olympiad. The English fencers, however, were concerned in only two
