Here the Scandinavian countries came into their own, -for Swedes-.,. finished rst and 2nd, with Finland and Norway dividing the next seven positions. - The Ski Jumping competition again saw Scandinavia well to the fore. The 1932 Olympic Champion was Birger Ruud, Norway, who jumped 2I8 ft. and 226ft. 2 in., thus scoring 228·~ po_ints. In some respects, how– ever, Hans Beck, Nol5Way, who finished _:wd, was the finer performer. He cleared 235 ft. 2 in. with his first jump, but was short on the second, which measured 208 ft. 2 in., thus _crediting him with 227 points. Wahlberg, of Norway, was 3rd, -Eriksson, Sweden, 4th, and Oimen,– U.S.A., 5th. In this contest there were 34 competitors representing fo nations. Canada, G~rmany, Poland and U.S.A. played off twelve games in tlie Ice Hockey tournament, in which each_ team played the other twice. - But just as the Indians have preved tli.emselves supreme in Field Hockey, so the Canadians have well -established their supremacy in Ice Hockey:... At Lake Placid they successfully defen_~ed their title, scoring I r points to U.S.A. 9 points; Germany 4 and Poland b. - ' The final match between America ancl Canada drew a great crowd of specta~ors but, although the Americans were 0 n their Qwn ice, they could not deprive the Canadians of the title they had won 1n 1928. It was a most exciting game, and the time limit found the score set at 2-all. Three further periods were played without further goafs being scored. The match thus ended in a draw, but had America succeeded in defeating Germany in the course of the tournament the championship would have gone to U.S.A. on goal average. · , -
