By taking the average of the differentweeks, it appears,that he walked the mile duringthe first week in 14 minutes and 54 seconds; in the second, he required 16 minutes; thirdweek, 16 minutes41 seconds; fourth, 18 minutes36 seconds; fifth, 19 mi nutes 41 seconds; and in the sixth week, 21 minutes 4 seconds.—During the first week, his averagerate of performingwas something more than four miles an hour; and in the last week, somewhat less thanthree miles- c c 2 * CHAP.
