These six documents, viz. the threedonations, and the three respective confirmations, were extracted from the Chartulary of Aberbrothwick, which still remains in the, Advocates'Libraryof Edinburgh,andthey may, therefore, be deemed quiteauthentic. Humphrey, and his daughter Richcnda, having died with­ out male issue, Johnde Berkeley, the brotherof Humphrey, succeeded, and,being dissatisfied with the alienations they had made, he turned the abbot and monksout of all their- possessionsin his domains. But he was obliged to com­ promise the matterwith them; and, with the concurrence of his heir Robert, he gave them themill of Cometh, with its appurtenances, in lieu of the landsof which be dispos­ sessedthem, burdened, however, withthe yearly payment of thirteen merksof silver to himand his heirs.
