But his greatest feat was the accom plishment of fifty-nine miles in eight hours anda half, which took place on Tuesdaythe 7thof April 1812. He started from his resi dencein Kensington, to go to Blackwater in Hampshirea, ndreturn,fora stakeof two hun dredguineas. He arrived at Ashford Com mon in two hoursand ten minutes(seventeen miles,)and refreshed at Englefield Green, in five minutesless than threehours fromstart ing, (twenty-one miles.) He continued stea dilygoing on until he did half the journeyin four hours and four minutes. After being well rubbed,he resumedhis undertaking, and wentseven milesan hour tolerably true, but wasmuchdistressedduringthe last two hours. He completed the distance,however, winning his match by three minutes within time, so that the fifty-nine mileswere accomplishedin exactlyeight hoursand twenty-sevenminutes^ Captain Agaralso lately performed a very extraordinaryundertaking.
