Wood took the lead for about forty yards, and continued so tillnearly the four-mile winningpost, when Powlittmade •an exertion, passed him, and led forabout ten yards, when Wood again tookthe lead, appa­ rently with ease, and, passing his antagonist several yards, continued to leavehim for the remaining threerounds. Wood did not appear to be the least dis­ tressed, and ran the distance in fifty-one mi­ nutes andtwenty-four seconds, Powlitt being nearly a minute longer. The distance waesx­ actly ninemiles, one-quarter, and three hun­ dred yards ; twice round the course at Don- caster being three miles, three quarters, and thirty-two yards.
