L inton, British Professional, at the Seine track, Paris, 19May 1896,when he took the French hourrecord with 48455 Kilometres ridden in the hour, andwhat was thought to be 50 Kilometres in ih. im. 56'ji*. The times foreach Kilo metre were duly taken, buton remeasurement after the race the track was found to be a few yards short of what had been assumed. Consequently all the Kilo metre times taken were incorrect, and it was only possible to establish accurately the hour record.
