L ITTLEWOOD set up between them at different times World's Records from 85 —623*/* miles (the end), which see at pp. 221—229. The following are R OWELL'S British Records from 85—100 miles and for every 5 miles from 100—231: g The record for a grass track is 49*/^. made by L. E. M YERS, the American Amateur, at Blackburn, 1 Aug. 1885. h At Aston Lower Grounds, Birmingham, on 19 July 1884, L. E. M VERS, the American Amateur, ran in a 1000 yard handicap from scratch. He failed to win, but came in second; hewas, however, separately timed as doing 800 yards in im. 45s. and the 1000 yards in 2m. i4 , /ss.,but the English Records Committee have never accepted these records. In America L. E. M YERS is credited with 1000 yards in 2m. 13s., which is World's Record at the distance.
