R OWELL (51—58, 65 and 76—84 miles) and G. H AZAEL (59—64, and 66—75 miles) in slower times than world's record figures—the 75 miles being done in gh. 53m. 15s. by G. H AZAEL at New York, 9 May 1881. From 85—623 miles (the end) American Records are all held by Englishmen and, with the excep tion of the 231 mile Record, constitute World's Records, which see. The American hour record is held by P. F ITZGERALD, British profes sional, with 11 miles 60 yards, run at New York 16 June 1879; the six hour record is 47 miles 1100 yards made by D. D ONOVAN at Pro vidence, R. I., 6 Aug. 1880; all subsequent hour records are held by Englishmen and constitute World's Records, which see. c As in the case of the mile record given above, this is notproperly an American record. Moreover, seeing that B YRNES ran 20 miles in less time than G UERRERO took to run 19 miles, and having regard to the other figures, it is pretty clear that he must have beaten American Record from 12—20 miles.
