298 THROWING THE HAMMER N.B.—With a handle 3ft. Gin. long T. F. K IELY threw the i61b. hammer with both hands from a 7ft. circle 123ft. 1 lin.at Kildorrey, Ire., 8 October 1894; and J. S. MITCHELL with unlimited run and follow threw a like hammer 136ft. 1 '/ain. at Limerick, Ire., 6 August 1888. With a handle of unlimited length, and with unlimited run and follow, the 1 61b. hammer has been thrown, with one hand, 125ft. 4in. by M. DAVIN , London, 26 May 1877, ANC L with bothands 138ft. 3in. by G. H. HALES , London, 7 April 1876. HI.—AMERICAN AMATEUR RECORDS N.B.—In America the hammer head frequently weighs an exaci number of pounds which means, of course, that the hammer—head and handle—must weigh a little more. In the following table where the weight given is the weight of the hammer head only, the sign -j- is added to show that the whole hammer weighed rather more than the weight specified—thus i2-\ means a hammer with a I2lb. hammer head; in all other cases the figures relate to the weight in pounds of the whole hammer.
