312 WALKING near this latter record with 8 miles 270 yards within the hour. 120 miles in 24 hours is also a noteworthy achievement by A. W. S INCLAIR, British Amateur. A really splendid road record is that set up by E. K NOTT, British Amateur, in a walk from London (Polytechnic Institute, Regent Street) to Brighton (Aquarium), on the 10th of April i 897. The distance is nearly 54 miles and Avasccomplished by K NOTT in gh. 10m. 14s. (8h. 56m. 44s. from the Clock Tower, Westminster). A remarkable feature of that walk was that out of 37 starters no less than 31 finished, all well within the 12 hours. Other records to which attention may be directed are, 100 miles in i8h. 8ni. 15s. by W. H OWES, British Professional; and 500 miles in 5'/a days, and 531 miles 677 yards in 6 days by G.
