B RADY'S Australasian Amateur Record (also on grass) made at Auckland, New Zealand,14 November 1894. b The Southern Committee of the A.A.A, at ameeting on 30 October 1896, among other records made by W. J. S TURGESS passed one for 14 miles of ih- 52m. 59'/»s., thus practically ignoring the record given above standing to the credit of T. G RIFFITH. Seeing that G RIFFITH'S record for 15 miles of zh. om. 27s. made at the same time as that for the 14 miles, is acknowledged by the A.A.A., this action seems a little inconsistent. The explanation seems to be that G RIFFITH'S records were made in a match against time, though why a distinction should be drawn and what precise value may attach to it, is not so easy to explain.
