X.—MISCELLANEOUS Throwing the Cricket Ball 140 yards by BILLY the Aboriginal at Clermont, Australia, 19 December 1872. The full distance was said to havebeen 142 '/a yards, 2 1 /# yards having been deducted to "allow for any deviation." This scrupulous anxiety about the 2 '/a yards makesone alittle doubtful with regard to the 140. It has been claimed for R. PER civ AL that he threw 141 yards at Durham race-course in 1884, but this is regarded as so doubtful that few authorities even mention it. Another extremely doubtful performance is that of G. BROWN who is said to have thrown a cricket ball 137 yards at Wolverton Common in 1819. 132 yards by W. F. FORBES (with a wind behind) at Eton College Sports, 16 March 1876. G. J. BONNOR, the Australian cricketer, is generally said to have thrown 130 yards in Australia, but time, place, and date are not forthcoming.
