At the short sprints the Americans appear to beat us: while at the longer distances those two wonderful Frenchmen, HURET and RIVIERRE, practi cally sweep the board. It is true that the extraordinary American times are made in America and may depend to some extent on climatic conditions —MICHAEL has recently eclipsed all his English performances in the States—but French superiority in long distance cycling is a fact which must be accepted without qualification.
