HAVING disposed of the collegian and the artisan, those of our readers who are conversant With " SPIRTING, " as matches for short distances are called, and with the mode of training, starting, &c., for runners, will make allow- ance for our enlightening those who are not so initiated. It so happens that we are well acquainted with one of the (as we are told) fastest runners of the day, who, hearing of " Sportascrapiana, " and coupling with it the fact that we lately evinced some little interest in spirt- running, very kindly sent us the following: - " Just a few notes upon 'fleet of foot, ' or more espe- cially called 'spirting, ' which I am better acquainted with than with 'long-staying' races, and which your recent inquiries induce me to think will be acceptable.
