Success in Athletics and how to obtain it
HAMMER-THROWING figs. 47, 48, and 49 (nos. ZA, ZB, and zc), and 52 showing good style~ As the right foot comes to the ground in its new position, ·the left foot is drawn back to the level of the right, so that the feet are now parallel to their first position (sketch 5); but a bit further into the circle, the athlete must now stand firmly on his feet, and make the second turn in exactly the same way, only without any pause or break between the two movements. The second turn must be faster than the first, and the third fastest of all, with the whole of the athlete's attention concentrated on getting the hammer· away from the hands in good style. At the completion of the third turn the hammer is delivered, or perhaps it would be better to say "thrown," as described when the throw from a stand was dealt with. No diagrams are needed to show the turns, as it will be obvious that these are perfectly straight– forward (or should one say "straight-backwards?"), and the feet take up a similar position each time, but each time nearer the edge of the circle from which the hammer is thrown. It will, however, be of interest
