Next he springs forward right across the circle, and lands firmly on both feet with right knee bent; the right shoulder sinks back, and the body is turned, at the waist, to the right (sketch 3). Push– ing off from the right leg, he springs around. As the shoulders come square to the direction of the " put " (sketch 4, p. 172), the arm shoots out, and the shot is sent on its flight with a final flick of the wrist and fingers, which imparts to it a right to left spin. Just w d. Diagram 30. as the shot leaves the hand the feet are reversed (sketch 5, p. 176). The athlete remain's balanced on the right foot with the back hollowed, the right arm outstretched, and the body leaning well out over the toe-board until the shot has come to earth. (See fig. 71.) Diagram 30 describes the path taken by the shot in its passage through the air. The final and main force generated in "putting" the shot is from w to a, where it departs. a o is the line of projection, which should be one of 45°.
