10 THE "100-UP" EXERCISE the Spartan Harriers' Novices' Steeplechase, over S} miles of country at Edmonton. He won comfort– ably, and this success was followed by a score or so of others at various distances from 440 yards up to 4 miles in different parts of the country. E. 1:yers, the American crack, paid his first visit to this country, challenging George to the !-mile, 1,000 yards, and 1,200 yard . George refused, offering to run the i, ! and I-mile. But Myers would not agree, and returned to America after carrying off all before him, including the 440-yards championship. But no sooner did he arrive on the other side than he cabled that he would run the distances named by George. if the latter would cros to New York.
