The Athlete for 1866

A Handicap Meeting was held, on the 15th December, for Members df the Club only; and, notwithstanding the bad state ot the ground, owing to heavy rains, the races w re run in good time, and many of them produced close finishes. The Gymnasium, in Wellington Street, Strand,is now open for the use. of Members, and in a few weeks the Club will have a Running ground o which Members can practice, and on which theCompetitions of the pre» sent year will be held.Arrangements are also in progress for opening the temporary ClubRooms in the neighbourhood of St. James's. Every effort isbeing made to carry out the intentions of the founders of this Club. Hitherto, owing to the limited means at its command, the Committee has been compelled toproceed with the utmost caution ; but thereis every reason to hope thatthe close of the presentyear wil^ see the Amateur Athletic Club installed in its own Buildings, and on its own Ground, and standing in the same relation to Athletics that the Marylebone Club does to Cricket.
