Monnington (who waa tired frompreviousexertions) running a dead heat for second place. Time 28 seconds. Flat Race, One Mile— Brackenbury 1 Moeran ... 2 Hammick 3 Rice madeplay at a splitting pace,and kept a fine lead for one lap, and part of the next, when he gave way to Parring- ton; at half the distance Moerantook the lead, but fell backagain for a time; at the beginning of the last lap, how ever, he again rushed to the front, cut ting down all his men as if they were standing still and taking a tremendous lead; this however, as it appeared, was premature, for when 100 yards from home, Brackenburywho had been lying well up, about fourth place all the race, now came to the forewith a rush, and challenging Moeran, raced him neck and neck for 20 yards, and finally, at 80 yards from the post, came away and won this magnificent race by 3 yards. 10 yards separated Moeran and Ham mickwho was third, the same distance between Hammick and Parrington. This was one of the finest races that has been seen at Marlborough for some time.
