Fox (70) (drawn) The second ties were played an<l finbhed on Friday evening, 22nd inst. F. Attwood (90) played a steady game with R. N. Bennett (80) who, losing his nerve, was beaten by 67 point . A splenclid match followed, betw en ]'. W. Brown (80) and A. D. Clarke (40), the latter catching him at 196 all, wb u playing out of baulk Brown fluked a winning stroke. ]'. Attwood, after leading W. J. ambier ( cratch) by 102 points, wa only 3 in front at 183, but luck brougbt him in the winner by 18 points. T. Hardy had a bye. The fourth ties and final began with F. Attwood (90), after cautious play, beating 'r. Hardy (60) by 27 point , the losers paying most assiduous attentions to cannon , to the neglect of easy hazan1. J. A. Huclson(8U)had a bye, and then met F. Attwood (90), who played in the samo cautious tyl as befor , imd his opponent losing nerve, he won the handicap by 41 points, luck having rved him throughout in a mo t remarkable mnnucr. The prize is an elegant littlo silver cup, repre– senting a net pocket supported by three cu s, tho three balls at their fo t. It was de ign d and manufactured by Hancocks, of Bruton trcet. Athletic Society's Festival at Liverpool. The sixth annual fe tival of the Ath– letic Society of Great Britain was cele– brated in Liverpool on June 28 and 29 and July 1. Friday evening wa con– fined to gymnastic exercise , which took place at the Gymna ium, Myrtle >-= treet, Liverpool. The pedestrian conte ts, &c.. were decided on the Shiel Park Athletic ground, and the swimming competi– tions in the Great ] loat, Birkenhead. The prizes consi ted of seven gold, thirty-two silver, and thirty-two bronze medals, in addition to which a gold champion medal was awarded for gene– ral proficiency.
