Now came a fine struggle between Fitzgerald and Stevenson. Fitzgerald, who collapsed at the post, beat Stevenson by 70 yards. Robertson won by 80 yards. At the mile wen led, but was soon displaced by va.nberg, and afterwards by Hefferon, and these alternately took the field along until Hefferon made his effort, with two laps to go, and failed to stay. Seven hundred yards from home, Voigt purted right away from the rest, running in beautiful style, and won by 70 yards. Owen caught va.nberg at the last corner and beat him by nearly 50 yards. )•'.
