Porter, aged 26, wa born at Bridgeport, onnecticut, and was 6 ft. 2~ in. tall. He weighed 13 t. 3 lb. The Olympic record of 6 ft. 2:t in., by J. Y. Baxter at Paris in 1904, wa thus beaten, and Porter had done 6 ft. 31 in. before leaving America in 1908. Con Leahy, who tied with two others for . econd place in London with 6 ft. 2 in., is brother of P. J. Leahy: who failed in these Game , but cleared 6 ft. 4 !1 in. in Ireland in 1898. 'fhe world's record is h ld by M. F.. weeney (amateur) who did 6 ft. 5ri in. at New York in 1895. Diplomas of Merit for the Running High Jump were awarded to H. A. Gidney, T. Moffitt, and J. N. Patterson all Americans. XVI.-RUNNING HOP, STEP, AND JUMP.
