-466 THE RUNNING BROAD JUMP. Each competitor shall be allowed three jumps, and the best three ompetit rs of the first trial shall be allowed three more tries each for the final. The farthest jump of all shall win. If any competitor fall back or step back, after jumping, or crosses the taking-off line with either foot, or so swerves aside that he pass beyond the takincr-off line, such jump shall not be measured, but it shall be counted against the competitor as one jump. All jumps shall be measured lo the taking-off line from the edge of the heel-mark nearest that line, along a line perpendicular to that line. THE STANDING BROAD JUMP. The fi et of the competitor may be placed in any position, lmt shall leave the ground only once in making an attempt to jump. When the feet are lifted from the ground twice, or two springs arc made in making the attempt, it shall count as a trial jump without result. A competitor may rock forward and back, lifting h cls and toes alternately from the ground, but may not lift either foot clear of the groundj or slide it along the ground in any direction. In any other respects the rule governing the H.tm11ing Broad Jump shall also govern the tanding Broad Jump. THE POLE JUMP. Each competitor shall be allow d three jumps at each height. 'ross111g the scratch without di:placing the bar shall not cou11t as one jump. All measurement· shall be made from the ground to the centre of the bar. Three attempts, even if the cross-bar be not displaced, shall ount as one 311mp. The Judges t:1hall decide the height of the bat at starting a11d at each snccess1ve elevation. RUNNING HOP, STEP AND JUMP. The competitor shall first land upon the same foot with which he shall have taken off. The reverse foot shall be used for the second landing, and both feet shall be used for the third landing. In all other respects the rules governing the Running Broad Jump shall also govern the Running Hop, Step and Jump. THROWING THE HAMMER. The head and handle may be of any size, shape and material, provided that th_ length of the complete implement shall not be more than/our feet
