APPENDIX 141 third disagree, the time marked by the two watches shallbe ac cepted. Should all three disagree, the time marked by the in termediate watch s all be accepted. The flash of the pistol shall denotethe actualtime ofstarting. If, for any reason, only two watches record the time of an event, and they failto agree, the longest timeof the two shall be accepted. For record, however, three watches must be held on an event. RULE VIII.—THE STARTER shall have sole jurisdiction ver the competitors after the Clerk of the Course has properly placed them in their positions for the start. The methodof starting shall be by pistol report, excepthat in time handicapraces the word "go" shall be us d. An actual startshall not be effected until the pistol has been purposely dischargedafter thecompetitors have been warned to get ready. When any part of the person of a competitor shall touch the ground in front of his mark before the starting signal is given, it shall be considered a false start. Penalties for false startingshall be inflicted by the Starter,as follows; In all races up to and including 125 yards the competitor shall be put back one yard for the first and another yard for the second attempt; in races over125 yards and including 300 yards, two yards for the first and two more for the second attempt; in races over300 yards andincluding 600 yards, threeyards for the first and three more for the second attempt; in races over 600 yards andincluding rooo yards, four yards for the first and four more for the secondattempt; in races over1000 yards and including onemile, five yards for the first and five more forthe second attempt;in all races over onemile, ten yards for the first and ten more forthe secondattempt. In all cases the third false start shall disqualify the offender from that event. The Starter shall also rule out of that eventany competitor who attempts to advance himself from his mark, asprescribed in the officialprogramme, after the Starter has given the warn ing to "^jetready." RULE IX.—THE CLERK OF THE COURSE shall beprovided with thenames and the numbers of all entered
